Stephen Brunt



Stephen Brunt has been The Globe and Mail’s lead sports columnist since 1989.

The Hamilton-born Brunt joined the paper as an intern in 1982 after graduating from the University of Western Ontario. He covered the 1984 election before moving to sports in 1985. In 1988 a series he wrote on corruption in boxing earned him a Michener Award for public service in journalism.

Brunt has been nominated for several National Newspaper Awards during his time with The Globe and Mail. He is also the author of seven books, including the bestseller Searching for Bobby Orr and Facing Ali: The Opposition Weighs In, which was made into a full-length feature documentary. His latest book, Gretzky’s Tears: Hockey, Canada, And The Day Everything Changed, was released in 2009 by Knopf Canada.
